Welcome to the 2008 Deganwy Quay Boat Owner’s Club Website
Membership of the DQBOC is open to any owner of a boat which is berthed in the Marina at Deganwy Quay
I last sent out a newsletter (blog) about the club in September but have since been rather eclipsed by Julie’s weekly EQUAY newsletter. However, not to be outdone here are some updates on matters pertinent which I trust you will find relevant:
Marina Basin Some concerned boat owners have brought to my attention that their props are now on the bottom of the basin when the tidal gate is closed. This is equivalent to a water depth of only 1.5m, a drop of approx 1.3m since the marina opened. Prior to a committee meeting on 10 October Simon Haigh advised that remedial dredging is in hand with surveys analysed and a trial dredge agreed in principle with authorities. Licenses are currently being submitted, a contractor identified and likely timing will be early/late Feb or early March. Additional information is that we believe that boats will be marshalled at one end of the marina to provide access.
Membership Many thanks to those new members who have registered with us as a consequence of our promotion e-mail and we hope others will join us prior to the new season next year as we are considering making our website password entry only for paid-up club members. It is important that we speak with a unified voice to Management particularly with regard to expressing our viewpoint on next years berthing charges and obtain clarity on charging policy. With this in mind I have asked for a meeting with Simon Haigh as early as possible.
Matters for Management discussion
a. Street lighting between the hotel and the crossing was switched off at night allegedly because of complaints from a resident.
b. When the hotel has weddings or other functions at weekends parking becomes impossible so we will seek permission for parking over-spill on the hard-standing area.
Social.
We hopeto arrange a pre-season social event the Saturday after Easter next year. This could be an outdoor/indoor barbecue on the quay with live music. A discount from club funds may be offered to paid-up club members. The committee feel it important to continue to forge links with other associations such as the Deganwy Yacht Club and the Conwy Cruising Club through discounted associate membership and this is being pursued.
Supplier Discounts.
Nikki has done a lot of work updating our discount list and we have new services suppliers and links on the website www.deganwyquayboc.org N.B. Raymarine is offering from £250 - £350 cash-back on used electrics such as GPS, chart-plotters and radar against the purchase of their new multi-function displays until December 19.
